APSIC Environment Hygiene Excellence Award
The APSIC Environment Hygiene Excellence Award is a prestigious recognition presented by the Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) to honour healthcare institutions that have demonstrated outstanding achievement in environment hygiene.
These institutions comply with the APSIC Guidelines for Environmental Hygiene: Surface Cleaning, Air and Water Quality in Hospitals; and showed excellence as a leader in maintaining the environment safe and clean for optimal patient healthcare delivery. Its significant impact is seen with reduction in healthcare associated infections and reduction of outbreaks associated with MDRO, fungal and water-borne pathogens.

The Asia Pacific Society of Infection Control (APSIC) is pleased to invite healthcare institutions across the Asia Pacific region to participate in the newly launched APSIC Environment Hygiene Excellence Award (APSIC EHEA).
Announced at the APSIC 2026 Congress, the APSIC EHEA is a regional programme established to recognise healthcare institutions that demonstrate excellence in environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The award aims to raise awareness, strengthen best practices, support hospital improvement, and celebrate leadership in creating safer healthcare environments for patients, healthcare workers and communities.
Environmental hygiene remains a critical pillar of infection prevention and patient safety. Through a structured, scientifically guided framework developed by APSIC, participating institutions will have the opportunity to assess their environmental hygiene practices, benchmark performance, identify improvement opportunities and gain recognition for excellence.
Who Should Apply?
APSIC invites hospitals and healthcare institutions across the Asia Pacific region that are committed to advancing environmental hygiene and infection prevention to register their interest.
Participating institutions will be assessed based on APSIC-developed guidelines and evaluation criteria covering environmental hygiene practices, governance, implementation, outcomes and continuous improvement initiatives.
Award Criteria
To qualify for the APSIC Environment Hygiene Excellence Award, institutions must:
- Demonstrate a significant reduction of outbreaks associated with contaminated environment or reduction in key pathogens associated with healthcare-associated infections.
- Follow the APSIC Guidelines for Environmental Hygiene: Surface Cleaning, Air and Water Quality in Hospitals.
- Engage multidisciplinary teams in the development, monitoring and improvement initiatives in achieving excellent environment hygiene.
- Share success stories, data, and strategies with others in the region.
Winners of the award will be recognised at the next APSIC International Congress.
Award Process
Participating institutions are required to:
- Complete the Programme Registration Form
- Complete the APSIC EHEA Self-Assessment Form
- Submit supporting information as required
Applications will be reviewed by the APSIC EHEA Expert Panel. Shortlisted institutions will be contacted by APSIC and invited to participate in the next stages of the programme, including education activities, further assessment and site visits from January 2027 onwards.
Successful institutions will be recognised by APSIC for their achievements in environmental hygiene excellence.
